Sega Expands Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble with New Content and Characters Through 2024

Sega has exciting news for fans of the Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble. The company has revealed plans for more downloadable content and free updates following the conclusion of the current season pass.

The update was shared through the official Super Monkey Ball account on X (formerly known as Twitter), which included an image hinting at the upcoming season pass content and what players can look forward to later in the year. A new free multiplayer stage and Tails, Knuckles, and Amy are currently available as playable characters through the season pass.

Come September, players will be able to enjoy a new multiplayer mode as part of a free update. The season pass will also introduce two new characters: Crazy Taxi's Axel and Jet Set Radio's Beat. On top of that, a Sega-themed costume pack will let players dress their monkeys as popular characters, including Akira from Virtua Fighter, Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe, Nights from Nights into Dreams, Goro Majima from the Yakuza series, and Shadow the Hedgehog.

Looking further ahead, there is a teaser for additional content that will arrive in late 2024. This will include new multiplayer stages and modes, once again available for free. Most intriguing, however, is the announcement of new characters that will be added to the game.

Sega is keeping details about these new characters under wraps, including how many will be introduced. Due to the unexpected popularity of this Nintendo Switch exclusive, there is speculation that a second season pass might be on the horizon. If given the chance, it might be a good idea to continue exploring the Dreamcast era by including characters like Ulala from Space Channel 5 or perhaps even go all out with the addition of the iconic Daytona USA Hornet car.
