Expansive Update to Gran Turismo 7 Introduces New Cars and Revamped Features

Polyphony Digital has unveiled an impressively large upgrade to its Gran Turismo 7 game, termed the most extensive update since the game's initial release. The Spec II Update 1.40 is set to go live at 11 pm PST today, translating to 6 am GMT on November 2, featuring seven additional vehicles and a new snow-bound Lake Louise circuit with three varied track layouts.

In addition to these, the upgrade affords a four-player Couch Mode that splits the screen, and a Quick Race option imbued with Sophy AI driver assistance. These modifications are exclusively catered to the PS5. A detailed guide to the update is available on the PlayStation Blog, revealing the inclusion of 50 supplementary Challenges within Licenses, brand new World Circuit events, and expanded Café / Extra Menus.

The roster of new vehicles as part of this update are the ‘68 Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi, SRT Demon ‘18 Dodge Charger, ‘10 Lexus LFA, ‘91 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, ‘95 NISMO 400R, 2022’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992), and the 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance.

While Gran Turismo 7 first made its appearance in March 2022 for PS4 and PS5, its debut on PlayStation VR2 followed in February 2023, which was offered as a free-of-charge upgrade for those who already owned the game. Polyphony Digital's president, Kazunori Yamauchi, had previously stated in December that there wasn't a PC version of Gran Turismo 7 under immediate consideration. However, he did not entirely quash the prospect of a future release.

The Gran Turismo series, premiering in 1997, has been a hit in the industry, with over 90 million units sold, as reported by Sony in November 2022.

To conclude, the substantial update presented by Polyphony Digital significantly bolsters Gran Turismo 7's gaming experience, offering players a more engrossing and richer journey into the world of racing. As it continues to captivate racing game aficionados with the latest cars, track layouts, and other features, the speculation around a possible PC version in the future continues to loom. Until then, PlayStation users have much to look forward to with the enhanced features of this exciting update.
